Specialized Interests/Qualifications: Dr. Black received the Michael E. Burt Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence in Surgery from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award. She also received an American Cancer Society Summer Research Fellowship grant and a research grant from the Society of Surgical Oncology. During her medical school training she received the Lucy Wortham James Research Award. Dr. Black has to her credit numerous publications and presentations. Professional Affiliations – She is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is board-eligible for Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. She is director of Gynecologic Oncology at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport where she teaches students and residents. Community Activities or Interests – Dr. Black has a special interest in cancers of the cervix, uterus, ovary, vagina and vulva as well as minimally-invasive surgery and trachelectomy, a surgical procedure that can preserve fertility in selected patients with early-stage cervical cancer.
